I was wondering why something so mean, basically bullying this guy, was on the front page of hacker news. Glad I skipped to the bottom and read the apology.
I'm still not sure why it's on HN though. And even with the twist at the end they still spent an entire page making fun of the guy's appearance, clothing, name, and so on.
> It was an attempt to recreate for you, dear reader, what was going through the author’s mind immediately prior to watching the video.
If that was the goal, it utterly failed for me. While reading the top of the post, any opinion I may have formed was about the author insulting a random guy they didn’t know, not about the subject of the post.
This whole point could've easily been made without being a complete dick for 90% of the article. This style of writing isn't clever, it's just being a douche.
Oh I love it. The existence of these things must mean that there is an anti-refinement-culture operation going on out there, perhaps with participants unaware.
Yes, everyone relies on either the paint or the three point line. Everyone relies on leg kicks and grappling. Everyone builds from the back and scores off a cutback.
But maybe not everyone. Maybe in the realm below the machine-optimized carcinized athlete is diversity in style. Love to see it.

This really was a rollercoaster ride of a blog post, good content.
Possibly someone just watched Napoleon Blownapart's latest (excellent as usual) video[0] (Shinigami is covered from 21:10 to about 29:45.)
(In his mind, NappyBo followed the same arc as the article, it seems; the video is much more considered.)
