The reason I submitted this is that this raises the issues with "software defined vehicles". In the past, infotainment was just that -- music, navigation. Today with Volvo, however, problems with the infotainment system means that headlights stop working, the doors have trouble opening, windows have trouble rolling up and down, the car doesn't start, safety systems go offline, cars remain in limp mode, etc.
By mixing infotainment with these critical systems, basically moving away from a system of independent modules coordinating on a canbus to a more centralized architecture where there is a single CPU that has inordinate control over everything else, and that CPU is connected to the internet and drives the infotainment screen, there are all sorts of reliability and safety issues.
