This is par for the course with this justice department. After ICE agents killed Renee Good, rather than investigating her death, they chose to investigate her partner for anti-government sentiments instead.
If someone points out their wrongdoing, rather than take it seriously and work to purge their organization of corruption, they maliciously attack the people who pointed it out.

I disagree. Nothing about this was slow at all. They wrote endlessly about how they would throw the frog into a vat of lava, dangled the frog over the lava for a good while before tossing them in.

Not to defend the FBI here, but I don't see anywhere where they described it as a leak. In fact, they're officially denying that any such investigation is taking place. It's kind of silly to jump from the article describing as a "leak investigation" to "Aha! The FBI admits it! Hoist by their own petard!"
If there is a leak investigation which let’s be honest. I highly doubt there isn’t at this point. It just adds to the mounting evidence it is probably true. Just like the lawsuit will be dropped before depos like usual if it ever is refiled.
The general message is that you should comply and stay silent or your life will be very uncomfortable. What is true or not isn't that important, only vulgar display of power is.
You personally can probably be as loud as you like. If you have no real following and any information you put out can at best be stolen by someone who does, odds are nothing will happen. The government cares more about results than old man with his fist to the moon.
