Apparently, Omanis are not allowed to travel to Israel, so an Omani would not be a pilot going to TLV. Dual citizenship is also banned in Oman, so it probably wouldn't be from that either. Something is fishy.
I think he may have just been Indian, I did see some early reports listing him as an Emerati but the more recent reports appear only seem to list him as Indian.

Was this confirmed? I didn't see a reliable source reporting on the nationality of the backup pilots. A few sources had secondhand reports that both backup pilots were European but those don't seem to be confirmed.
It is interesting how we now default towards "fake news" instead of just understandable confusion around a non-typical situation happening far from any Western journalists.

AFAIU Omanis would need a visa to travel to Israel but they are allowed.

This was not even fake news, it was a prank launched by someone Russian on Telegram in a chat that has Israeli journalists reading it.
And where did you read that? Is it more trustworthy than the Financial Times?
