I have tried to get excited about this and I just can't get their yet. I'm sure folding devices will eventually be amazing but to me this really just feels like I wouldn't have a use case since I already have small laptop and a large phone.
There was a time when phone upgrades had big jumps in features that had a lot of excitement and people camping out to get one. I think this counts as one of those big jumps for Apple. I haven't been excited since I spent a lot of time checking the phone stores for an iPhone 4 and when I got it the feel was off - it seemed too fancy and too easy to break or scratch. I imagine this is a ~$2000 device, it's a lot of money for something you can drop, or get crunched in your pocket or bag.
My pet peeve is no real Firefox and ublock: origin on iOS. The ecosystem is too restricted, and yet pushes apps that send all the telemetry at the same time. I'm more excited for future meshtastic enables phones, maybe some enterprising Chinese manufacturer will make the rugged LoRA phone of my dreams!
I ordered mine at 8:02am (America/New_York) and my delivery window is 11/2-11/9. I wish Apple had some kind of program to reward repeat customers or even a lottery that didn't involve frantically refreshing the Apple Store trying to get in.
First time in 16 years I won't have the new phone on launch day.
Well, some people collect beer caps, some do plushies, some do new phones. It's not bad but caring for a thing what would be everywhere soon enough.. yeah.
It's not too snarky, it's that leaving a comment (let alone a follow-up) on a social media site just to smack someone with how little you care is vapid, childish nonsense. Most folks tend to just like... not let shit they don't care about occupy mindshare.
And no, "so was his comment" just makes yours look even more childish in response.
But hey, upvotes, I'm sure, for slapping that smug Apple user, however intellectually vacuous the slap was.
You’ve transitioned from giving potentially valid feedback on rudeness to a much more preachy and hypocritical tenor.
I don’t know you and I don’t have a big shame response to criticism from random people online so forgive me if I do not stress about your judgement here, person who feels the need to criticize people online for criticizing people online.
Don’t care about the problem (as in, appallingly entitled problem to have)
Does care very much about how the author didn’t appear to realise how entitled his post sounded.
It’s very simple, if you’d actually wanted to understand.
Uh, are you sure we are talking about the same comment?
I just said I wished they had a better system and gave a data point.
I didn't pretend like it was the end of the world, I was just trying to provide information on the demand for the phone (8:02 and already deliveries were slipping) and I felt like adding the bit about "16 years" helped show that even someone who has been through this process and know how to do it well from lots of practice wasn't able to get the phone.
Very plausible I misread your tone/intent. I did read it as whining about how they ruined your 16 year streak.
Anyone who buys the latest iPhone on release day every single year for 16 years has got to be classified as a fanboy, though. Fine if you are a fanboy. That’s not a bad thing on its own.
I’ll admit to being a “fanboy” (though it’s waned in recent years). This is one of the very few “splurges” or “financially irresponsible” purchases I make and I do it because it’s fun. That’s it. I enjoy trying out the latest phone even if the changes are minor. Some people gamble or spend their money frivolously in other ways. This is mine.
I wasn’t trying to whine or otherwise pretend my day was ruined. It was 100% “aww shucks, the streak that really meant nothing to me was broken”. I just wanted to add a data point to the conversation and I apologize if it came off like I whining or felt entitled or anything like that. I don’t believe I’m “owed” a phone on release day and waiting 2 weeks isn’t a big deal. I do enjoy following the coverage and trying out things mentioned, that’s part of the “fun”, but I can wait 2 weeks and I’ll be just fine (obviously).

> I have tried to get excited about this
Why? You don't need to be excited or amazed.
It's either useful to you or it isn't. If it's not useful to you, don't buy it.

Next year as in < 3months from now. Not that long.
The article says all colors and storage configs were showing ship dates of January 25 or later, so >3 months.

I have rarely heard of a problem I cared so little about.
Well, some people collect beer caps, some do plushies, some do new phones. It's not bad but caring for a thing what would be everywhere soon enough.. yeah.
And yet you felt compelled to leave a snarky, mean comment anyways instead of doing literally anything else. Why is that?
Yes. The statement was so out of touch and over-the-top fan-boyish that I felt compelled to reply.
Perhaps my reply was too snarky. I had a visceral reaction to the privileged whining and responded.

I think you simply missed the point.

No need to apologize for your comment. I appreciate you responding and clarifying. And I probably do owe you an apology for being so snarky. Sorry.

Especially for an account of 2 days old.
"I know you are but what am I" doesn't work that well when I didn't have the complaint GP had. Did you have something to add, here?

Just ordered one on T-mobile's website that (they claim) will be delivered in late Nov/early Dec.
So if you're desperate check your mobile provider's website.
Time for all the resellers to profit from FOMO.
