This will change the waiting in line frustration (amusement parks, breakfast joints, gadget fanboy first sales). Venue, restaurant, store issues vests - folks waiting single file play group Sudoku, order food (group by color vest), and of course you need accessories for that new gadget or pick something limited edition for being patient.
I think the most fascinating part isn't just the display but the mechanical robustness of integrating 20,000 electrical connections into a flexible textile. Most previous attempts at smart clothing failed because the solder joints cracked under repeated bending and washing, so this laser-assisted wetting technique for precise micro-chip attachment seems like a genuine materials science breakthrough rather than a gimmick.
I wonder if the heat dissipation from 5,000 chips running simultaneously on an arm would actually be comfortable during extended use. The article mentions machine washability but doesn't explicitly clarify whether the power source needs to remain external or if it was integrated into the fabric itself in this prototype stage.
Is this a progression of Google's Project Jacquard? https://blog.google/products-and-platforms/products/atap/sma...
It would be great to have this as a bracer/half sleeve that could be worn independently of a whole shirt, sort of like a soft Pip-Boy.
NGL having a t-shirt that could change words on the fly to piss off ICE agents would be on my Christmas list :-)

Crazy, I have a cool startup idea that’s around this concept that been working on casually for some time, telepathy?
Or corporate espionage
