If you hang out in the sysadmin subreddit for a bit you’ll see this a lot. Medical shops somehow have the strictest regulations (HIPAA) yet are the worst run dysfunctional orgs
Could've just let him bring his own device and given him a cellular modem and have it pulled out of his paycheck. It would have been less than $100/month and he would not have even noticed it, being a top physician making $1M+/year.
Or, Cellular iPad. Stays off the network, and doesn't infect anything else.
I once worked in a small office and was told a story about a previous employee who offered to hold down the fort while the rest of the office went to lunch. While they were gone he watched porn. Knowing that activity was logged, he was clever enough to use someone else's computer. He was not clever enough to consider that he had just verbally confirmed to a dozen coworkers that he would be the only one in the office at the time.
I haven't done help desk work since I was in college. I would guess the attack vectors are the same since then. Stupidity (clicking a fake system dialogue, etc. user intentionally did x but didn't realize that it was), JavaScript exploits (drive by downloads, etc), and maybe less commonly torrented or downloaded content containing malware. 1 and 2 are hard to distinguish once infected and are only really caught off your checking history or DNS queries. 3 has the benefit of occasionally being caught by another system before the user gets a bad download.
How about doing both not at work? You can have as much sex as you want and watch as much porn as you want, but please outside of your work environment.
Yep. Happens all the time in healthcare IT. "The doctor is one of our multi-million-dollar revenue generators, so we let it slide" is the excuse. Every time.
I've personally written up a chief radiologist before for it. Zero action, because "he made the facility $6m+ last year" in rural nowhere.
It was actually one of the helpdesk's interview questions - "how do you handle responding to a doctor whose machine is full of porn?"
No wonder years later they got slammed by ransomware.
Partially! Fight Club. Never make any assumptions to the doctor. It's not their porn, it's somehow porn.
Silently document/log it including evidence and report it to your supervisor.
The project manager, when he was a PFY on the desk, made assumptions to the doctor. The angriest doctor on staff. I'm surprised he's still alive to this day after that, let alone in the C-suite now.

I fixed a 'dirty' pc in a small office with 3 people. The offender was one of the two bosses, the other one did not like that.
I added porn filter on there router.

What are the usual attack vectors for that?

Watching porn is like doing sex, you should be doing it safely instead of trying to ban it. Education is always the best tool.

A doctor needs to be educated how to watch porn at work?
Would have been a lot cheaper than cleaning up afterwards all the time.
What was the sickness of the doctor? Does the article tell so? Or does it imply that endulging in adult entertainment is -- ahem -- sick?
Puritans love to shame others for sex. It's insane.
It is insane to watch porn at work.
No, there's just a time and a place. Nobody is shamed for taking a shit, but if I do it at my desk at the office it's gonna be a problem.
Lol, yes. Because beating off to porn at work is totally normal

Was the correct answer, "Ask my supervisor?"

sure don't watch porn on your work pc, but this is just technical illiteracy.
